OSU Mobile Telemedicine Clinic
debuts at Bedlam

Dr. Pete meets Pistol Pete –
Drs. Larry Ellis and JoAnn Ryan, along with Pistol Pete and the newly arrived OSU mobile telemedicine clinic. |
OSU telemedicine reached a milestone when OSU-CHS took delivery of its new mobile telemedicine clinic in November. As the distinctly OSU bus travels the state, a larger than life Dr. Pete emblazoned on its side brings a familiar face to health and specialty care for rural and medically under-served Oklahoma.
OSU President David Schmidly and his wife, along with other dignitaries including A&M Regents Claud Evans and Calvin Anthony toured the new clinic at the OSU-OU Bedlam game in Stillwater. With its exam rooms and telemedicine capabilities, the bus serves as a clinic for family medicine and specialty procedures, an emergency room, and a disaster recovery facility.
When the telemedicine clinic rolls into a rural Oklahoma community to assist at a clinic or hospital, it provides communications technology, staffing and exam rooms. Using the telemedicine and distance learning networks, it connects with facilities and physicians to provide general and specialty care, specialty procedures and screenings. Rural hospitals and clinics can offer their patients care from specialists in far-away offices, no travel required. The mobile clinic brings services to locations that cannot support full-time specialty care, making it possible for patients to get the care they need without leaving home.
The clinic is operational within minutes of arrival, and operates for approximately 13 hours without refueling. Satellite, cellular and landline communications all are available.
OSU Health Care Center
gets rave reviews
The following note was written on an OSU Physicians patient complaint form:
“This is not a complaint. In fact, it is the complete opposite. I have never, in all my years of health problems, had any nicer and more friendly and efficient care and help from all of the staff, especially at the Southwest Boulevard clinic. I want to say thank you to everyone involved at OSU Health Services. And, I am so glad OSU will be the name of my hospital!”
