Day of Caring kicked off the 2007 United Way campaign. Susan Burk and Alice Gottschalk help with manicures as OSU-CHS faculty and staff pitched in for United Way Day of Caring. On campus, guests from Reaching Hands enjoyed manicures, lunch and bingo. Volunteers helped out at the Magic Empire Council of Girl Scouts’ cabin. A chili and sweet treats cook-off, and jeans coupons also helped raise money. Photos

Chili cook-off participants were Vicky Pace, Janet Wantland, Kim Hart, The King, Terry Blevins, Jonathan Franklin, Doris Patneau, Leigh Goodson and Pam Oldham.

OSU Center for Rural Health Honored

Oklahoma State University Center for Rural Health has received two prestigious awards.

 

  • The center is one of two recipients of the Champion of Public Health award from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma Champions of Health. The award will be presented Oct. 8 at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City .
  • The center was named “Rural Organization of the Year” by the Rural Health Association of Oklahoma for its dedication and commitment to rural health, and for serving as an example for other organizations to follow.

David Barron takes SAC reins

Committees and chairs are Awards and Recognition, Debbie Martin; College and Community Relations, Sandra Hale; Fund Raising, Lisa Riggs Jenkins; Policies & Benefits, LaDonna Lacey; Rules and Procedures, Kathy Lee and Graphics and Advertising, Crystal Remy.

 

“Staff advisory Council represents the staff of OSU-CHS in communication with our president, Dr. John Fernandes. I encourage all staff to be aware of whom their representatives are so that any issues or concerns can be brought to the council. Council members and council information are listed on the Staff Advisory Council web site. Meetings are open and anyone in the OSU-CHS system may attend. Get involved and make a difference. OSU-CHS is a great place to work and Staff Advisory Council is a wonderful way to invest in the ongoing success of this institution,” Barron said.


Round of Applause

Jan Barber is chair of the Westside Community Coalition, made up of representatives from across West Tulsa . The coalition has become a Turning Point Coalition focusing on health improvement. Cris Campbell with OSU Prevention Programs lists priority needs identified by Westside residents as public transportation and availability of grocery stores. Other needs include a focus on poverty, substance abuse prevention and treatment, and obesity/diabetes.

 

Cathy Ramsey was the first guest disc jockey at 94.1 The Sound radio station. She played her favorite tunes, received a guest DJ shirt and a recording of her broadcast. In her application, she wrote that she loves listening to the radio, loves to sing and knows the first line of “about 1,000 songs.”

Frank Champlin, Ph.D. was appointed Professor Emeritus status by the Mississippi Board of Trustees of Institutions for Higher Learning; Publication “Outer membrane permeability for nonpolar antimicrobial agents underlies extreme susceptility of Pasteurella multocida to the hydrophobic biocide triclosan,” Veterinary Microbiology 124:310-318; Reviewed manuscript for Journal of Microbiological Methods and Journal of the American Biological Safety Association.

Miriam Mills, M.D. appointed to data safety monitoring board of AAO-funded osteopathic otitis media research study; asked to co-author chapter on otitis media in new Foundations of Osteopathic Medicine (3rd edition) in problem based osteopathic patient management section.
